Best Time to Visit Valencia, Spain: A Month-by-Month Guide
Short answer: The best time to visit is March–May (think Fallas and spring) and September–October are the sweet spots. But the right time for you depends entirely on what you’re coming for.

Spring (March–May): The Best Overall Window
If you can come only once, then you need to come to Valencia in spring, when Valencia is at its most electric. The spring season opens with Las Fallas in mid-March — a UNESCO-recognised festival involving massive sculptural art installations and daily gunpowder displays called Mascleta. The streets are filled with live nightly paella cooking events in each neighborhood and a dramatic bonfire finale. The celebrations actually begin well before March 15 with pre-Fallas events, so if you’re coming for Fallas, plan to arrive at least a few days early.
Crowds and hotel prices spike significantly during Las Fallas, so book well in advance. The festival is famous for the daily mascaleta show (which is an extremely loud pyro and sound show happening daily at 2 pm at the ayuntamiento). It is an activity you need to experience atleast once in your lifetime, but beware that daily noise can be too much for some people. Also, the mascaleta show comes with a byproduct of heavy smoke of gunpowder so those with respiratory issues need to take caution. Make sure to book your hotel well in advance if you dont want to pay outrageous rates. Besides Fallas, spring is ideal for walking in the city with mild temperatures and flowers blooming in Turia Park. Also worth noting is the jacaranda trees’ bloom, turning streets purple in May. It’s genuinely one of the prettiest times to be in Valencia and the most picturesque.

Summer (June–August): Beach Season, But Plan Around the Heat
Summer in Valencia is genuinely hot (read: very hot). July and August regularly hit 35°C+, and August in particular is when locals flee to escape the brutal heat waves. Many businesses close down in August temporarily or run with limited hours. The city quiets down as the heat becomes oppressive in the afternoons. We’d recommend avoiding August if you’re primarily coming to explore the city. We try to leave Valencia in August whenever we can as well.
That said, if you’re primarily after beach time, June and the beginning of July are a good option. The temperatures are warm but not yet brutal, with plenty of sunshine and a pleasant afternoon breeze. Malvarrosa Beach becomes lively without the August crowds. The city hosts its Feria de Julio (July Fair) with free concerts and cultural events.
July is also the time for the famous Rabajas, sales in Valencia. Most stores offer massive discounts going up to 50%-70% off regular prices. Most locals, as well as tourists, take advantage of the discounts.
Technically not in Valencia, but also worth noting is that La Tomatina festival takes place in Buñol, about 40km from Valencia, on the last Wednesday of August.
Autumn (September–October): The Hidden Best Time
In our opinion, September is in many ways the best month to visit Valencia after the spring season. The summer crowds are starting to leave, and locals are coming back; temperatures are warm and very swimmable, and the city returns to a more authentic rhythm. Valencian Community Day celebrations bring a lively atmosphere in mid-October without the Las Fallas intensity. There are plenty of fireworks at Turia and Ayuntamiento, and occasionally drone shows to celebrate the day, which both locals and tourists enjoy.
October is also when Valencia gets the most rain. Although not heavy, but worth packing a light layer. Beaches remain accessible and warm into early October. If you want a relaxed visit that still feels like summer, September is our top pick.
Winter (November–February): For Budget Travellers and Marathon Runners
Winter in Valencia is mild by European standards, rarely below 10°C with plenty of sunshine during the day. Hotel prices drop significantly, and the city is walkable without the midday crowds. You will feel like you have the city all to yourself.
December is particularly interesting: the Valencia Marathon (one of the world’s fastest, held in early December) brings tens of thousands of runners and a brilliant spectator atmosphere. There’s also a Christmas market, festive lighting across the old town, and the Three Kings Parade on January 5–6 for anyone travelling over the holidays. In December, you can also witness or take part in the Valencia nocturnal costume marathon. Hundreds of people put on fun, and sometimes silly costumes and take part in what is known as the most fun marathon in the city. Huge crowds line the streets just to see the people running in the most elaborate and fun costumes you will see.
February is the quietest and cheapest month, and can be lovely for a slow visit
